Are you feeling the rush of life again? Is life feeling over filled? Are you getting frustrated with the pace of life? Trusting life again and moving with ease and flow is very much a WIP for many of us after a global pandemic and long-term lock down.
Strategic Patience
Life can feel fast again as we go back to physical workplaces, socialise face to face and travel outside our local communities. There is heightened storming that is taking place in school classrooms, offices, families and with friends. People are not sure of their roles, responsibilities, new habits need to be formed and old habits need to be released. People are clashing because our life rules have changed. Each of us have different levels of resilience and some of us are not accepting the new rules of life. What are the new rules of life for you? Are you allowing yourself to consciously create your best life in this new world order?
Before acting – remember your strategic patience, build in space to consciously reflect and be considered of what is best for you and your team, family, organisation and community.
When you notice resistance and stagnation in relationships, teams, functions, pause and step back before reacting. In martial arts we learn to assess our surroundings, put ourselves in places where we can best thrive and always be prepared for any situation. Assess yourself first -your own state, what are your intentions, motivations and emotions? What energy are you projecting to a situation, what pace are you playing at? Then assess the states, intentions, motivations, emotions and pace of others – what information do you now understand that can help you find the flow and momentum in this situation?
I am very mindful of my own emotional state and the pace of my life. I lived most of my life in fight/flight mode always in a hurry avoiding an imagery demon that no longer exists. The combination of growing up in an immigrant family, feeling I had to prove my worth as a female and not allowing myself to enjoy life in the moment – culminated in a great ego focused career and then a crash in my health. The hindsight I have now, if only I had applied this in my 30s, pause, breathe, enjoy the moments, savour time and be strategically patient. Everything always works out in divine timing.
Strategic patience allows us to build in space for others to catch up, for seeds to grow, for teams to move from storming to performing, for resources to be onboarded for people to heal and trust the world again.
Getting back to life we need to reset ourselves from fight/flight survival to a calmer more patient thriving state. My crepe myrtle tree took it’s time to bloom it was worth the wait. Appreciate all that is required to fully engage in life again.
Life throws us challenges and opportunities every day. How we react to these is in our hands and starts with conscious choices and mindfulness. When I was recently faced with a rocky beach, I first started to focus on how difficult it is to traverse, and each step felt more difficult and challenging. I then paused and looked around me and chose to see the options all around and found a path with flow. Remember we can choose a hard path with resistance and pain or a path of more ease and flow. Use your strategic patience to make considered choices to live fully again.
